Digital Desk: A devastating plane crash occurred in Vinhedo, Sao Paulo state, Brazil, claiming the lives of all 61 people aboard on Friday. The ATR 72 twin-engine turboprop, operated by Voepass, was en route to Guarulhos International Airport in Sao Paulo when it crashed into a gated residential community approximately 80 kilometers (50 miles) northwest of the city.

The incident left a smoldering wreckage, but officials have yet to confirm any casualties on the ground. Witnesses at the scene reported no injuries among residents.

The flight, which had 57 passengers and 4 crew members, was identified as Voepass Flight 2283. The airline provided a passenger manifest but withheld nationalities, correcting an earlier statement that had listed 58 passengers.

Voepass expressed deep regret in a statement, confirming that all 61 individuals on board perished. The airline is focusing on assisting the victims' families and cooperating with authorities to investigate the crash's causes.

This tragedy is the deadliest airline incident since January 2023, when a Yeti Airlines ATR 72 crashed in Nepal, killing 72 people. The final report attributed that crash to pilot error, highlighting ongoing concerns about the safety of the ATR 72 aircraft.
