Digital Desk: On 5th April, New Delhi hosted a critical meeting between the Ministry of Home Affairs and representatives of Meitei and Kuki civil society organizations (CSO) to address the ongoing unrest in Manipur. Representatives planned to resume talks at the end of April as a result of negotiations that aimed to resolve the crisis during their discussions.
The participants stressed that immediate dialogue is vital for the restoration of peace, along with normal functions within the violence-affected state. Two main key issues appeared during these discussions: stopping all violence from community groups, as well as creating ways for IDPs to return safely and developing conditions that let people travel freely inside Manipur. All discussions at the meeting failed to produce an official agreement for resolution.
However, the talks marked a crucial step as the participating parties agreed to maintain continuous dialogue. The Indian government plans to organize another round of peace discussions this month as a demonstration of its dedication to achieving enduring peace in the area. The meeting gives reason to believe that it can help address current challenges while restoring the faith between Manipur's communities.
