Digital Desk: In Guwahati, the current price of petrol is 98.19 per litre. Over the past ten days, prices have been fluctuating between 98.19 and 98.63.

Petrol prices in Guwahati, as anywhere else, are determined by a combination of local and international factors. Such things as the Brent crude oil price, the exchange rate of the rupee against the US dollar, and international events such as wars or political crises can all cause turmoil. On the domestic front, fluctuations in excise duties, state taxes, patterns of demand, and supply chain problems contribute as well. In addition, refining expenses and dealership commissions are also integrated before the final price reaches the pumps.

Petrol price in Guwahati as on July 6, 2025 is:

98.19 per litre.

Fuel costs in India have risen significantly in recent times, particularly in relation to neighbouring nations. Previously, petrol used to be subsidised by the Indian Government, and the fuel prices were held relatively steady vis-à-vis world prices. Presently subsidies on petrol ceased, and its prices are inversely correlates to international crude prices. In addition to that, the government also imposes excise duty on petrol, making it even costlier. To add insult to injury, every state imposes its own value-added tax (VAT).

In Assam, for instance, VAT on petrol is up to 30.85%. This tax is imposed before the final amount is arrived at, and ultimately, it’s the consumer who has to pay all these amounts. That’s why petrol prices have been rising so sharply in recent months.
