Six coaches of the North East Express derailed near Raghunathpur railway station in Bihar's Buxar...


Digital Desk: At least four people were killed and over 50 were injured when the North East Express derailed near Raghunathpur Railway Station in Bihar's Buxar district on Wednesday, according to ANI reports.


The unfortunate tragedy occurred while the North East Express was going from the national capital's Anand Vihar Terminal to Guwahati's Kamakhya Junction. At roughly 21:35, many carriages derailed near Raghunathpur Station, triggering the derailment of further coaches. 


As per ANI reports, 21 coaches derailed, with some leaping the rails due to the speed of the railway.


The Railway Ministry stated "Train number 12506 (Anand Vihar Terminal to Kamakhya) was travelling via Raghunathpur station's main line. Six carriages were derailed."


"Information has been received from the local district administration that approximately 50 people were injured," stated East Central Railway zone Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Birendra Kumar.






Reportedly, the passengers were rescued by the district administration and local residents, and the injured were taken to nearby hospitals. Passengers with critical injuries were taken to AIIMS Patna.


"Four deaths have been confirmed, and rescue efforts are underway. 21 coaches have been derailed." East Central Railways (ECR) General Manager Tarun Prakash informed.

The cause of the massive train derailment has yet to be determined. Meanwhile, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that the evacuation and rescue efforts have been wrapped up.
