Digital Desk: Ahead of Independence Day security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have been placed on high alert to ensure public safety amidst rising tensions in the region. The heightened security measures include rigorous vehicle checks in the Bhimber Gali and Manjakote sectors, aimed at preventing any potential threats.
Earlier today, a search operation was initiated by security forces following a brief exchange of fire with terrorists in Kishtwar, according to police reports. This comes in the wake of a recent incident where two Army soldiers lost their lives. Havildar Dipak Kumar Yadav and Lance Naik Praveen Sharma were killed in an encounter with terrorists in Anantnag on August 10. Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi, along with all ranks of the Indian Army, paid tribute to these brave soldiers, acknowledging their supreme sacrifice.
Recent months have witnessed an increase in terror attacks in Jammu, including a significant assault on an army convoy in Kathua and skirmishes in Doda and Udhampur. According to a report from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), up to July 21 this year, 28 individuals, including civilians and security personnel, were killed in 11 terror-related incidents and 24 counter-terror operations.
Last month, Indian Army troops successfully thwarted an attack by the Pakistan Border Action Team (BAT) along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district's Machchal sector. This confrontation resulted in the death of one Pakistani intruder and the loss of one Indian Army soldier, with four others, including a major-rank officer, sustaining injuries.
