SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami has alleged that the film portrays Bhindranwale in a negative light and has urged the government to take legal action against Kangana for allegedly inciting Sikh sentiments.

Digital Desk: Kangana Ranaut's upcoming film Emergency, which she both directs and stars in, is set to release next month . Ahead of its release, the film has landed in trouble as the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has demanded a ban on Kangana's directorial. The committee has criticized the portrayal of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, a figure honored as a martyr by Akal Takht Sahib. SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami has alleged that the film portrays Bhindranwale in a negative light and has urged the government to take legal action against Kangana for allegedly inciting Sikh sentiments.

Faridkot MP Sarabjeet Singh Khalsa, the son of Indira Gandhi's assassin Beant Singh, has also joined the call for a ban, accusing the film of misrepresenting Sikhs. Additionally, Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal has demanded that the SGPC review the film before its international release. In a statement from Amritsar, Badal emphasized, "I haven’t seen the film, but the Shiromani Akali Dal was at the forefront of the struggle during the Emergency, with the late Parkash Singh Badal leading the movement and facing arrest."

Badal further criticized Kangana, suggesting that any misrepresentation of Sikhs might be influenced by her previous derogatory comments about Punjabis, especially during the farmers' protests.

Emergency explores the period of Emergency imposed by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Alongside Kangana, the film features Shreyas Talpade, Anupam Kher, and Milind Soman. Kangana's previous film was Tejas.
