New Delhi: In a significant development, the Supreme Court on Thursday overturned the bail previously granted to Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. The apex court's decision comes in response to a plea filed by the Meghalaya government, challenging the initial bail order.
A bench comprising Justices M.M. Sundresh and P.B. Varale directed Ms. Raghuvanshi to surrender before the police authorities within a period of three weeks. However, the court also stipulated that if the trial in the case does not commence and conclude within six months from her surrender, she would be at liberty to file a fresh application for bail.
The case revolves around the mysterious disappearance and subsequent death of Raja Raghuvanshi, a businessman, during a vacation in Meghalaya's picturesque Sohra (Cherrapunji) in May 2025. The couple, residents of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were reported missing on May 23, 2025. Tragically, Raja Raghuvanshi's body was discovered in a deep gorge on June 2, 2025.
Following investigations, Sonam Raghuvanshi was arrested in June 2025. Meghalaya Police investigations suggested that she allegedly conspired with hired assailants to murder her husband, reportedly for financial gain. The Supreme Court's latest directive now intensifies the legal proceedings in this high-profile case, bringing the focus back to the ongoing trial in Meghalaya.
