Muzaffarnagar: Around thousands of farmers from around 15 states have gathered to participate in 'Kisan Mahapanchayat', in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh.

The gathering has been organized to give an impetus to the ongoing protest against the contentious farm laws.

This mahapanchayat, against the Central government’s three farm laws, will prove that the agitation has the support of all religions, castes, classes, states, small traders, and all sections of the society, said the umbrella body of 40 farmers unions, Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM).

"The 'mahapanchayat' will make the Modi-Yogi governments realize the power of farmers, laborers, and supporters of the farm movement. This Muzaffarnagar mahapanchayat will be the biggest ever in the last nine months," the SKM said in a statement.

More than 100 medical camps have been set up for the farmer, around 500 'langar' services have also been set up to provide meals for the farmers, includes the mobile 'langar' system (tractor-trolleys).

Punjab’s 32 farmer unions have given a deadline of September 8 to the state government to withdraw cases against protestors, the SKM said. The farmer union also said that if the cases are not withdrawn, the farmers will prepare a roadmap for a bigger protest on September 8.

So far, the Centre has held over 10 rounds of talks with the farmer unions. Meanwhile, security has been tightened in Muzaffarnagar, and there have been orders to close all the wine shops because of the 'mahapanchayat'.
