Digital Desk: Three writers from Assam have been chosen for the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award for Translation 2024 for their exceptional works in Assamese, Bodo, and Bengali languages. The awardees are Anjan Sarma, Uttara Bwiswmuthiary, and Basudeb Das respectively.
Noted writer and translator Anjan Sarma bagged the award for translating the English book ''Early History of Kamrup" into the Assamese language. This book was originally written by Kanak Lal Barua. Sarma was chosen for the translation titled "Prachin Kamrupar Itihas". The renowned writer is also the managing director of the leading printing and publishing house Bhabani Offset.
Writer Uttara Bwiswmuthiary bagged the prestigious award for translating Anuradha Sharma Pujari's famous Assamese novel "Kanchan" into the Bodo language with the same name.
Basudeb Das, who translated around 300 Assamese short stories into the Bengali language, earned the Sahitya Akademi Award for translating Homen Borgohain's Assamese novel "Saudor Puteke Nao Meli Jai" into the Bengali language. Das, born in Assam, now lives in Kolkata and expresses his love and respect for Assam through his translation works.
