In a devastating incident, five youths from Assam's Lakhimpur district lost their lives after their vehicle veered off National Highway-13 and plunged into a deep gorge in Arunachal Pradesh. The accident occurred on Saturday near the Pagaso Stream, approximately eight kilometres from Seppa town in the East Kameng district, casting a pall of gloom over their home communities.

The victims were reportedly returning from the bustling Friday Market at Rilloh when the Bolero they were travelling in met with the fatal mishap. Preliminary reports suggest the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to careen off the road and fall into the treacherous ravine near Tatatara village.

Authorities were ed to the tragedy around 8:15 a.m. after receiving a distress call. A police team from Seppa immediately mobilised, rushing to the accident site to initiate rescue and verification operations. Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered four occupants deceased at the scene of the crash. A fifth individual, who had sustained critical injuries, was rescued but ultimately succumbed to his injuries, confirming the loss of all five lives.

The tragic demise of these young men has sent shockwaves through Lakhimpur, a district already grappling with various challenges. The incident underscores the dangers of mountainous roads and the critical need for vigilant driving, especially in the rugged terrains of the Northeast. Local authorities have commenced an investigation into the precise circumstances that led to this heart-wrenching accident.
