Kolkata: BJP MLA from West Bengal, Biswajit Das, has left the saffron party and joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Tuesday and he is the third legislator to do so from May this year.

Das joined BJP in 2019 and won from Bagda constituency in the 2021 assembly polls.

He is also a former two-time MLA from TMC.

“I never felt very comfortable in the BJP. I wanted to return to the TMC long ago. The BJP has done nothing for Bengal,” he said after joining the party in the presence of TMC secretary general Partha Chatterjee.

BJP MLA from Bishnupur constituency also returned to the TMC on Monday, while BJP MLA and party’s national vice-president Mukul Roy rejoined the TMC in June this year.

BJP won 77 of the 292 seats of the West Bengal assembly polls this year, while the Trinamool Congress had won 213 of the 292 seats.
