Ranchi: Family members of a woman were forced to carry her on a cot to the hospital due to poor road connectivity and lack of ambulance services. The incident was reported from Jharkhand’s Sahibganj district, Gadai Diyara village where the woman was carried for 12 kms on a cot to the Sadar hospital, as there was no other option for the relatives.

The woman’s health had deteriorated suddenly following which the family members called emergency helpline 108 seeking an ambulance but were told that it was not available.

It is to be noted that Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren is an MLA from Barhait Vidhan Sabha constituency, which falls under Sahibganj division.

Such heart wrenching incidents have been reported in Assam as well, where pregnant women, seriously ill patients, have been carried on makeshift stretchers that are made out of cloth and wood.
