Digital Desk: The romantic comedy Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, was released in theatres worldwide on March 8 to coincide with Holi. The film had a strong start at the box office and has now surpassed the Rs 200 crore mark worldwide.
The Luv Ranjan-directed film has earned Rs 161 crore gross in India (Rs 130.47 crore net) and Rs 40 crore gross overseas, out of a total gross collection of Rs 201 crore. The announcement poster was shared on social media by the production company Luv Films with the caption, "#TuJhoothiMainMakkaar crosses a love worth more than 200 Crore! Thank you for your immense support."
It is the fifth film starring Ranbir Kapoor to gross more than Rs 200 crore worldwide, following Rajkumar Hirani's Sanju (Rs 588 crore), Ayan Mukerji's Brahmastra Part One: Shiva (Rs 430 crore) and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (Rs 318 crore), and Karan Johar's Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (Rs 318 crore) (Rs 240.72 crore).
The fresh pairing of Ranbir-Shraddha and Pritam and Amitabh Bhattacharya's blockbuster music have been the main reasons for the film's phenomenal box office response, with all of the songs - Tere Pyaar Mein, Show Me The Thumka, Pyaar Hota Kayi Baar Hai, O Bedardeya, Maine Pi Rakhi Hai, and Jaadui - topping the music streaming charts.
Aside from Ranbir and Shraddha Kapoor, the film also features Dimple Kapadia, Boney Kapoor, Anubhav Singh Bassi, Hasleen Kaur, and Inayat Verma in prominent roles. Kartik Aaryan and Nushratt Bharuccha, who have played the leads in each of Luv Ranjan's previous four films, make special cameo appearances.
