Sachin also appealed for the government to hand over the investigation to the CBI and called for Army assistance in the ongoing search for Raja’s wife, Sonam, who remains missing
Digital Desk: The mysterious death of Raja Raghuvanshi in Meghalaya on his honeymoon has now led his family to suspect foul play and request an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Raja’s elder brother, Sachin Raghuvanshi, says that local hotel staff, tourist guides, and two-wheeler rental operators might be involved in the case.
Sachin was certain that what happened was not an accident but murder. “We believe our brother was killed as a result of the employees at the hotel, tour guides, and those who rented out scooters. Their testimony should be checked very carefully. Raja’s body was badly decomposed, so no one could identify him at first. But it was possible to recognize him using the tattoo on his arm and Sachin’s smartwatch.
He also urged the government to involve the CBI in the investigation and asked the Army to help find Raja’s wife, Sonam, who still has not been found. The family says that when Raja was found, his gold jewelry (rings and a chain) was missing, along with his wallet, power bank, and mobile phone.
Raja was found dead on 2nd June at the bottom of a deep gorge, which is near Weisawdong Falls in Sohra, about eleven days after the couple disappeared. They traveled to Meghalaya on 20th May and were seen for the last time on 23rd May, leaving Nongriat village after exploring the Double Decker Root Bridge. The scooter the couple rented was discovered by police unattended near a café along the Shillong–Sohra road.
In reaction, Meghalaya Police have opened a murder case and have entrusted leadership of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Herbert Pyniaid Kharkongor. A team is assembled that consists of senior officials from the Sohra police and crime department, and there is a magistrate present to supervise the investigation.
As the search for Sonam continues, the Raghuvanshi family remains resolute in demanding a thorough inquiry and accountability for the tragic events.
