Digital Desk: Kantara star Rishab Shetty has revealed that the upcoming film in his blockbuster franchise will be a prequel story. The multihyphenate artist revealed the details about the highly anticipated film at an event that was held to mark the 100th day of "Kantara" in theatres.

Kantara revolves around a small community living in the Kaadubettu woodlands in the southern coastal state of Karnataka. Weaving an intriguing tale of human versus nature conflict, where death leads to war between villages and evil forces, and Shiva, a rebel, protects his community and environment.

"We are very glad and thankful to the audience who showed enormous love and support to 'Kantara' and moving the journey ahead, with the blessing of almighty Daiva the film has successfully passed 100 days and I would like to take this opportunity to announce the prequel of 'Kantara," Shetty said.

"What you have seen is actually Part 2, Part 1 will come next year. The idea came to me while I was shooting 'Kantara,' because Kantara's background has more depth to it, and today, in terms of writing, we are in the middle of diving into more facts," Shetty added.

The writer-director, who also stars in the franchise, stated that the crew is presently conducting research for the prequel and that he will not be able to reveal any story details. Vijay Kiragandur, the founder of Hombale Films, stated they are working hard to produce a story that is "more enormous and spectacular than before."

"Kantara introduced the public to a whole new cinema, and we would love to maintain, if not raise, the craze that the picture has created among the audience on the screens by announcing the sequel, as the film has now ended its 100-day run," Shetty said.

"Rishab and our team have been working on the story relentlessly because the film has many more things to tell the public while opening the back story of Kantara and we can only guarantee that the sequel to Kantara will be more vast and great than before," Kiragandur stated. "Kantara" was released in theatres on September 30. It also starred Sapthami Gowda, Kishore Kumar G, and Achyuth Kumar.
