Bengaluru leads the way in EV talent, accounting for 62 percent of job postings.
Digital Desk: With the Indian electric vehicle (EV) industry accelerating, there has been a significant increase in employment in the sector.
According to a study, the average growth in employee numbers over the last two years has been more than 108 percent.
In its most recent survey, staffing and recruitment firm CIEL HR Services discovered that in the short term, for one year and six months, growth was at 35% and 13%, respectively. It also stated that women's advancement into leadership positions had been accelerated.
Bengaluru leads the way in EV talent, accounting for 62 percent of job postings, followed by 12 percent in Delhi, 9 percent in Pune, 6 percent in Coimbatore, and 3 percent in Chennai.
The survey, titled 'Latest Employment Trends in the EV Sector 2022,' was conducted on a total of 15,700 employees from 52 companies. The engineering function is the most important in the EV sector, followed by operations, sales, quality assurance, business development, IT, HR, and marketing.
According to the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the EV industry will generate one crore direct jobs by 2030, resulting in close to five crore indirect jobs.
Women are making inroads into the segment. Over the last six months, leading EV companies have hired 2,236 people.
Women hold top positions in companies such as Kinetic Green, Mahindra Electric Mobility, Convergence Energy Services, OBEN Electric Vehicle, and Ampere Vehicles.
Ola's new e-scooter factory in Tamil Nadu is run entirely by women, with over 10,000 working full-time, according to the company.
Aditya Narayan Mishra, CEO of CIEL HR, said, "India is investing highly in the electric mobility shift. If it sustains this green momentum, the Indian EV segment will be a $206 billion opportunity by 2030. With this rapid growth, the industry has a high scope for engineering domains. We have always been working towards understanding hiring strategies, employer demands, and workplace trends across different industries across India. The insights from the study will help companies in strategic decision-making related to the talent ecosystem."
According to the reports, EV manufacturers are strategically hiring for mid-level positions. Around 41% of job postings are for associate-level positions, 34% for mid-senior level positions, and only 21% for entry-level positions. The auto industry is likely to require in-person physical presence, with only 12% of jobs in this sector expected to continue remotely and 8% in a hybrid mode.
