Desk: Parkash Singh Badal, a former
Punjab chief minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader, died on Tuesday at
the age of 95. The 95-year-old senior politician was brought to Mohali's Fortis
Hospital more than a week ago after complaining of respiratory difficulties.
Parkash Singh Badal died in the
intensive care unit on Tuesday at 8:28 p.m.
The death of the SAD patron was
confirmed by his son and party president Sukhbir Singh Badal's personal
assistant. The legendary politician will be laid to rest in Bhatinda's Badal
village.
color:black">On Wednesday morning, his lifeless remains would be transferred
from Mohali to Badal village.
color:black">The private hospital stated in a medical bulletin issued Monday
evening, "Parkash Singh Badal continues to be under close observation in
the medical ICU (Intensive Care Unit)."
color:black">However, according to hospital authorities, Badal's health has
improved slightly.
color:black">They even stated that if the senior politician's health condition
improved steadily over the next few days, he might be transferred to a private
ward.
color:black">The five-time Punjab chief minister was hospitalised in June of
last year as well, with complaints of gastritis and bronchial asthma.

color:black">Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his condolences on the
demise of Parkash Singh Badal, describing him as a political veteran who has
played a key role in Punjab politics for many decades.

color:black">"Throughout his long political and administrative career, he
made several notable contributions to the welfare of farmers and other
vulnerable sections of our society," Rajnath Singh tweeted.

color:black">Parkash Singh Badal was the Chief Minister of Punjab from 1970 to
1971, 1977 to 1980, and 2007 to 2017. He was also the youngest person to ever
hold the office of Chief Minister of Punjab.
