    Guwahati Police Crack Theft Case of  Dr. Hiren Gohain’s Residence
    All four  accused were part of a well-organized group that allegedly broke into Dr. Gohain’s home and stole cash

    Digital Desk :  Guwahati Police have successfully busted a gang responsible for a recent theft at the residence of eminent litterateur and Sahitya Akademi awardee Dr. Hiren Gohain. The incident occurred in Nizarapar under Chandmari Police Station, sparking concern across the city due to the stature of  the victim. 

    Police used CCTV footage and technical inputs to start a combined operation and arrested four people from different parts of Assam and Nagaland. In Lanka, in Dimapur, Gandhibasti in Guwahati, and Bagulamari in Bilaspir. They are accused of belonging to a group that allegedly broke into Dr. Gohain’s home and stole money.

    The breakthrough came under Chandmari PS Case No. 151/2025, with police confirming the recovery of the stolen money. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether the arrested individuals were involved in other similar crimes.

    Dr. Hiren Gohain is recognized as a great scholar not only in Assam but also across the country of India. Born in Golaghat in 1939, he graduated with English Literature Honours from  Calcutta University and then completed his Master’s degree at Delhi University. After getting his PhD from Cambridge University, he taught at Dibrugarh University and retired in 1998 as a professor of English at Gauhati University.

    The theft at his home shocked many, but the swift action by the Guwahati Police has brought relief and renewed faith in the law enforcement system.
