Digital Desk: Despite Assam DGP GP Singh's repeated warnings and advice to all Assam Police personnel to maintain the sanctity of police stations and ensure that police stations remain the safest place for our children and women, an armed branch inspector (ABI) from Tezpur was recently accused of sending impolite messages on WhatsApp to a college girl.
Regarding the matter, Assam DGP GP Singh in a tweet stated that "Reference incident of objectionable text message to a woman by a policeman in Tezpur - Armed Branch Inspector Lohit Rajbongshi has been placed under suspension and a departmental enquiry ordered to be completed in seven working days after which strongest appropriate action shall be taken. No deviant behaviour by a Cop would be brushed under the carpet."
The police officer named in the FIR, Lohit Rajbongshi, was allegedly assigned to the Sonitpur Superintendent of Police's office.
Regarding the incident, the victim girl filed an FIR against the said police official at the Kacharigaon police station on Friday.
"I address him as my uncle and respect him as well," the victim girl told the reporters. "However, his evil intentions have hurt my sentiments after he had asked me to send my private pictures wearing undergarments," she added.
It has also been revealed that the victim had previously approached the officer for part-time employment, and the officer had assured her that he would be able to help her. Things went downhill after the aforementioned police officer began to follow her WhatsApp status and continually laud her looks and body.
Meanwhile, people compelled the claimed police officer to kneel in front of the victim girl on Friday and apologise for his ill intentions and obscene remarks.
