Digital Desk: The Communist Party of India (CPI) has claimed that the death of Ulfa (I) leader Uday Asom suggests a possible link to illicit coal mining syndicates.
This announcement follows a confrontation between the Indian Armed Forces and the ULFA-I near Ledo, under the Margherita Subdivision of Tinsukia District, in which a ULFA-I cadre, Uday Asom, was killed.
The fighting between Ulfa and the coal mafia to take the territory, according to Ranjan Chowdhury, Secretary of CPI Tinsukia district council, resembled a "Gangs of Wasseypur" situation.
He further stated that, despite Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur's statements at the Y-20 Summit in Guwahati in February 2023 that insurgent operations in the North East had fallen by 89% and civilian deaths by 85%, facts and data paint a different tale.
