Digital Desk: In the ongoing final of the Ranji Trophy, the 41-time champions Mumbai are playing against Madhya Pradesh at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The team captained by Prithvi Shaw elected to bat first after winning the toss.
The record champions, led by domestic cricket veteran Amol Muzumdar, then amassed 374 runs in the first innings and the credit goes to star middle-order batsman Sarfaraz Khan's 243-ball 134 runs.
Before Madhya Pradesh came back in the middle overs by collecting wickets quickly in succession to hold Mumbai in check, the Mumbaikars had a great start and were in control. But Sarfaraz, 24, continued to march on to score his fourth century of this year’s tournament.
With the help of 11 fours, the right-handed batter—who is also the season's leading run-scorer—got to 300 in 190 balls. Khan was emotional as he celebrated his century and was spotted crying as he took off his helmet after reaching his hundred on the penultimate ball of the 114th over.

At 40 when the play's second day began, Sarfaraz took 152 deliveries to reach his half-century. He effectively accelerated after hitting his fifty and needed just 38 deliveries to score the next fifty as Mumbai lost wickets at the other end.
On the fourth ball of the 128th over, he was the final Mumbai hitter to return to the pavilion. He faced a total of 243 balls when he was at the wicket and scored 134 runs. During his innings, he hit 13 fours and two sixes.
Along with Sarfaraz, the young opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, hit 78 runs, and captain Shaw added 47 runs.
Sarfaraz, who has earlier played for Uttar Pradesh, is in his first Ranji Trophy final and has amassed over 900 runs so far this season.
