Ghazipur: The farmers started moving back to their homes lately, bringing an end to the long-drawn protest. Today will be the final call since the last batch of farmers will vacate the site in Ghazipur.
The Centre sent a letter to the farmers stating that they were ready to accept all demands made by the farmers' unions. Soon the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) - an umbrella organization of farmer bodies - suspended the agitation following the government conceded to its other demands.
On Wednesday, Rakesh Tikait, the national spokesperson of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) and other leaders, will lead the last batch of protesters at the Ghazipur border.
"The other farmers have moved out. The last batch will leave UP Gate on Wednesday morning. Rakesh Tikait will guide the last batch in a car, and the group will take the Hindon elevated road. Then move on the Delhi Meerut Road towards Sisoli (Muzaffarnagar district). Midway, there will be a group of farmers who will be waiting on roads to meet the last batch of farmers returning home," stated Gaurav Tikait, president of BKU's youth wing.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) signed off on a last letter from the Centre on December 9 that included vital steps to be taken.
After the agitation was called off, Tikait stated that he would be the last one to leave the protest site. As the farmers resumed returning from the borders of Delhi, Tikait has been attending various programmes in Punjab and Chandigarh.
Right from the day when farmers started moving out, teams of the National Highways Authority of India are looking at the expressway stretch to ascertain any damage to the road infrastructure.
"We have made detailed police arrangements at different locations on the Delhi Meerut road. We will make sure that no inconvenience is induced to commuters when farmers return home from UP Gate on Wednesday," stated Irja Raja, superintendent of police (rural).
