Digital Desk : In a deeply heartbreaking incident, a two-year-old boy drowned after accidentally falling into a pond while visiting his maternal uncle’s house with his mother. The incident took place  in Lakhipur in Cachar district, Assam.

The two-year-old toddler, identified as  Suhan Ahmed Khan, lived in Krishna Pur Konagram, Silchar. He arrived in Kalain a mere two days before with his mother for a family visit. It was on the same evening that he was playing around the house when he slipped and fell into a pond that was near the house. His absence went unnoticed initially, and after several hours of searching, his lifeless body was tragically found floating on the water's surface.

Locals immediately informed the Kalain police, who rushed to the scene. Suhan was rescued out of the pond and, under doctor supervision at Kalain Government Hospital, declared dead on arrival. According to the protocol, his body was sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital in order to conduct a post-mortem examination.

This sorrowful event has left the family devastated and the local community in shock. It also serves as a somber reminder of the importance of child safety, especially around open water bodies. In rural areas, where ponds and water sources are common near homes, even a moment’s lapse in supervision can lead to tragic consequences.

Authorities have urged families to be extra cautious, particularly when young children are playing outdoors.
