Guwahati: Two persons were detained after they were caught selling ‘ganja’ (cannabis) from a grocery store in Guwahati’s Lokhra bazaar. The police recovered as many as nine packets of cannabis from the store.

The two female accused have been identified as Rumi Mahanta and Tapochi Biswas of Bhurgaon in Morigaon district. Tapochi was allegedly acting as a cannabis supplier to Rumi.

“A WGPD team from Jalukbari PS apprehended one Rumi Mahanta (25), today evening, from her grocery shop in Lokhra Bazaar and recovered 9 packets of Ganja. The supplier – Tapochi Biswas of Village Mayeng 1, Bhurgaon in Morigaon was also arrested,” Guwahati police informed on Twitter.

Assam Police has been raging its war against drug menace in the state, apprehending many and collecting crores of drugs, cannabis, etc from the drug peddlers.

Illicit drug peddling has become a nuisance in the state of Assam, where the youth have become dependent on cannabis, drugs, heroine etc thus destroying their lives by consuming these banned stuffs.

Northeast region is known to be the dumping ground for inferior drugs. In order to clamp down on the drugs menace, Assam Police has cracked a whip on the illegal sale of drugs in the state.
