India suffers one stroke death every 4 minutes: AIIMS Neuro Expert
India has a higher stroke burden, especially among young and middle-aged persons.

Digital Desk: According to neurology experts at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), at least one stroke death occurs in India every four minutes.

According to Dr. MV Padma Srivastava, a professor of neurology at AIIMS "In India, strokes are the second leading cause of death. In India, there are about 1,85,000 stroke cases reported annually, with one stroke fatality occurring every four minutes and a stroke occurring roughly every 40 seconds."

According to Global Burden of Diseases (GBD), with 68.6% of stroke incidence, 70.9 % of stroke deaths, and 77.7% of lost Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALYs), India carried the majority of the burden of stroke.

These numbers are concerning for the nation because many people reside in areas with limited resources. Another worrying and significant finding of the GBD 2010 stroke experiment is the observation of 5.2 million (31%) strokes among youngsters under the age of 20. India has a higher stroke burden, especially among young and middle-aged persons.

"Despite these worrying numbers, many Indian hospitals do not provide adequate stroke care because they lack the organisation and equipment needed to treat stroke patients swiftly. The country's stroke services, particularly those provided by public hospitals, are lacking in many areas "the expert added.

The fact that so many people live in locations with few resources makes these figures alarming for the country. The GBD 2010 stroke experiment also discovered 5.2 million (31%) strokes among people under the age of 20. This is a serious and important discovery. India has a greater stroke prevalence, particularly among people in their 20s and 30s.

"Despite these alarming statistics, many Indian hospitals do not offer effective stroke care due to a lack of organisation and resources for providing prompt care. The nation's stroke services, especially those offered by public hospitals, are deficient in a number of ways "the specialist stated.
