72-foot Asteroid hurtling towards Earth at over 25,000 km per hour: NASA

Digital Desk: The American space agency, NASA, has said that a massive asteroid is heading towards earth. The asteroid is 72 feet long and hurtling towards the planet. The asteroid's name is 2022 YG5.

NASA keeps sending warnings about different celestial bodies approaching Earth. The agency also keeps track of asteroid threats to Earth. However, despite its proximity to Earth, this asteroid will pose little threat to the planet's inhabitants.

NASA has calculated through mathematical models that even though it is travelling towards Earth, it will be destroyed much before it reaches any alarming distance.

The asteroid is moving at a speed of about 25000 kilometres per hour. It has been travelling toward the planet for a long time. It will pass close to the planet on January 2.

Despite the fact that it will not cause any problems for people on Earth, NASA's Planetary Defense Coordination Office has classified it as a dangerous object.

NASA has been working on developing technology to divert potentially dangerous asteroids away from Earth. They successfully tested DART, an asteroid-diverting device, earlier this year.

Most scientists believe an asteroid strike was the reason behind the extinction of dinosaurs.  They believe that such an attack will result at the end of the world in the future.
