Australia announces Saturday as the first day of Eid Al Fitr 2023
Eid Al Fitr 2023 will be held on Saturday, April 22, which also marks the start of Shawwal...

Digital Desk: Eid Al Fitr 2023 will be held on Saturday, April 22nd, stated the Australian National Imams Council.

"The Australian Fatwa Council is pleased to announce to the Australian Muslim community the following: Friday, April 21, 2023, will be the last day of Ramadan 1444AH," the council made an announcement.

According to the statement, it's been said that Eid Al Fitr will be celebrated on Saturday, April 22, which also marks the start of Shawwal 1444AH.

"In Perth, Western Australia, the new moon of the month will be born on April 20, 2023, at 12.12 pm AWST, the sun sets on the same day at 5.50 pm while the moon sets at 5.54 pm, this is not a sufficient time to sight the new moon of the month of Shawwal on that night, therefore, Friday, April 21, 2023, will be the last day of the Month of Ramadan 1444AH." added the Australian Fatwa Council.

Eid Al Fitr, also known as the Day of Fast-Breaking, is a religious feast that marks the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar. Schools and businesses close or change their hours on this day.

In other countries, such as Jordan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Eid Al-Fitr celebrations expand to three days.

In Australia, sheer khurma (a dish of dates cooked in milk) is a traditional Eid breakfast food cooked by the people residing there.

Muslims in Australia, like those in most other countries, gather at mosques to offer the Eid prayer, "Salat Al Eid," in the community. On this special day, the majority of Muslims dress in traditional attire and travel to the mosque.

Muslims conduct extra good activities on Eid in addition to worshipping in the congregation and eating special meals with family and loved ones during Ramadan.

Giving alms to the impoverished, visiting family and friends, and paying little sums of money to children for faithfully partaking in Ramadan practices are just a few examples.

Some people fast six days during Shawwal, either consistently or occasionally, for higher spiritual blessings. According to Islamic custom, observing these additional post-Ramadan days in Shawwal is equivalent to fasting for a whole year.

We wish you a "Happy Eid Al Fitr 2023," and may 'Allah' grant you all the joy and happiness this Ramadan aka Eid Al Fitr.
