Digital Desk: A massive 7.7-magnitude earthquake shook Mexico's southwest coast on Monday, killing at least one person and causing tremors as far away as Mexico City.
According to data from the US Geological Survey, the earthquake struck shortly after 1 p.m. EST, with the epicentre occurring relatively close to the coastline in a sparsely inhabited area of Michoacan state.

As per the reports of local news outlets, firefighters in Mexico City restricted public access to some buildings because they suspected they might fall.
President López Obrador said on social media, José Rafael Ojeda Durán, the Secretary of the Navy, a fence collapsed in a shopping centre in Manzanillo, in the western state of Colima, and one individual lost his life.
Moreover, Claudia Sheinbaum, the mayor of Mexico City stated that there have been no major injuries or damage that has been reported.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) initially gave the earthquake's magnitude of 7.6. In a press briefing on Monday, Mexico's national seismological office later revised the magnitude to 7.7.
It is to be noted that the earthquake, which had a depth of roughly 15.1 kilometres, occurred about 37 kilometres to the southeast of the city of Aquila, according to USGS (9 miles).
Immediately following the earthquake, a Tsunami warning was issued; however, it has since been revised.
The tsunami threat has "mostly passed," according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. The organization's most recent readings also revealed a decline in wave heights.
Earlier forecasts indicated that Mexico would be struck by waves up to 3 metres (9.8 feet) high and that they would also affect the Pacific beaches of Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, and Peru.
The announcement was made on the fifth anniversary of the 2017 earthquake in Mexico City, which claimed 216 lives.
It may be mentioned that the USGS at the time reported that the epicentre of that 7.1-magnitude earthquake was 55 km (34.1 miles) south-southwest of Puebla City and 4.5 km (2.8 miles) east-northeast of San Juan Raboso in Puebla State.
