President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismisses Kyiv's envoy to India, Germany, and three other countries

The Ukrainian Presidential website announced the resignation of Kyiv's ambassadors to India, Germany, the Czech Republic, Norway, and Hungary.

Digital Desk: Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has fired Kyiv's ambassadors to India, Germany, the Czech Republic, Norway, and Hungary, according to the presidential website.

The decree did not explain dismissing Ukraine's ambassadors to India, Germany, the Czech Republic, Norway, and Hungary. It is also unknown whether the government will reassign the envoys.

For the uninitiated, Zelenskyy has urged his diplomats to gather international support and military assistance for Ukraine, which has been fighting Russia and repelling its invasion of Kyiv since February 24 of this year.

Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24 and has since continued heavy shelling and air strikes, resulting in civilian deaths and property damage.

Since Germany is the largest economy in Europe and is heavily dependent on the Russian energy supply, ties between the two countries have been particularly delicate.

The two governments are currently at differences over a German-made turbine being serviced in Canada, reports the news agency Reuters. Germany requests that Ottawa give the gas-pumping turbine back to Russian gas giant Gazprom so it can supply gas to Europe.

While everything is going on, Kyiv has requested Canada to hold the turbine, arguing that sending it to Russia would violate the sanctions imposed on that country.

Ukraine's ambassador to India, Igor Polikha, who has been relieved of his duties by Zelenskyy, told The Hindu that the announcement did not surprise or disappoint him. He said it was expected given his unusually long stay in Kyiv.

"It is normal to return home after seven years as an ambassador for any country. I am a diplomat by profession. I will return once the formal process is completed, "According to Ambassador Polikha.

Polikha was appointed India's ambassador to Kyiv shortly after the Russian forces launched their campaign in Crimea in 2014.
