Digital Desk: US President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr Jill Biden on Monday hosted a Diwali reception at the White House. On occasion, Vice President Kamala Harris was also present.
There were over 200 prominent Indian Americans present at the reception. Since the White House began honouring the festival during the George W. Bush administration, it was the largest event it had ever had.
Taking Twitter President Biden said, "Diwali is a reminder that each of us has the power to dispel darkness and bring light to the world. It was my pleasure to celebrate this joyous occasion at the White House today."
The reception was held in the East Room, a location where various significant geopolitical events have taken place, including the signing of the nuclear agreement and the joint press conference held in November 2008 by then-US President Barack Obama and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
During the reception, the dance group The Sa Dance Company and sitarist Rishab Sharma gave thrilling performances.
"At the East State Dining Room, the space is packed. This event honours the accomplishments of the Indian American community in the country. The White House's invitation to host us all on Diwali is a beautiful gesture on the part of the President. As an Indian American, I feel really honoured to be here, Atul Keshap, president of the US India Business Council, said," according to PTI.
