To maintain strong and healthy teeth and gums keep your mouth clean as it helps to keep cavities and decay at bay...
Digital Desk: One of the most important aspects of the human body is the connection between dental hygiene and overall fitness. Recent research has shown that keeping your mouth clean has a direct impact on your brain health, particularly on functions such as memory, balance, and movement.
According to Dr. Pratibha Mahajan, Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai, poor oral hygiene can lead to a variety of tooth and gum disorders.
Proper hygiene practice is essential for strong and healthy teeth and gums. Following techniques that keep your mouth clean keep cavities and decay at bay.
Dr. Mahajan stated that there are two techniques for keeping your teeth clean and healthy, one is the traditional method and the other one is the modern method.
Brush your teeth twice daily:
"The traditional technique" is brushing your teeth at least twice a day - in the morning and before going to bed, according to Dr. Pratibha Mahajan. She noted that flossing, which is not a popular notion in India, should be used to reach the crevices of the teeth and gums and remove any impurities.
"It is vital to reach the places between your teeth and the gum where it attaches the teeth because a biofilm of germs is there. We eat and drink throughout the day, which produces a biofilm "She stated.
Floss to get clean teeth:
Only after cleaning the teeth is the biofilm removed, as well as the soft deposits known as plaque and hard deposits known as tartar. Sadly, many people do not floss, which leads to gum disease because these deposits are difficult to remove over time.
"We brush our teeth but do not floss. Flossing is difficult. We aren't taught how to floss properly. Contact your dentist to learn the appropriate way to clean your teeth every day "Dr Mahajan explained.
Gargle after Eating
Gargling is essential after every meal, according to the expert. "You should gargle after eating a sweet, soft drink, juice, or meal since it changes the pH of your saliva," she explained.
Your oral hygiene will improve as your mouth becomes more alkaline. "Things that are alkaline are preferable. As the mouth becomes acidic, it begins to affect the teeth. Cavities and tooth decay become more likely as a result of this "Dr. Mahajan stated.
Food accumulation causes bacteria colonies to grow in the teeth, resulting in cavities and decay. "The idea here is to keep your mouth wet and more alkaline in pH so that this biofilm does not form," stated the specialist.
Now Comes the Modern Techniques:
Another option to keep your mouth clean is to use mouthwash, especially if you can't afford to brush after every meal. "When you stay for long periods of time with your lips closed, you start to notice the stale breath. This is when the bacteria starts to develop. You should use mouthwash to restore the pH to normal "Dr. Mahajan gave his suggestion.
