Digital Desk: Navratri is one of the most important festivals in India. Navratri, which translates to "nine nights," is a festival dedicated to the feminine divinity of Goddess Shakti. Each day of the nine-day celebration is dedicated to one of Goddess Shakti's nine avatars.
In the eastern half of the country, primarily in the states of West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Assam, Navratri is known as Durga Puja. Gujarat also celebrates Navratri with great pomp and show.
During these nine days, devotees fast and adhere to the Satvik diet. Each day of Navratri follows a colour scheme, which the devotees also follow.
This year, Navratri begins on October 15 and ends on October 24. As we prepare to celebrate one of the country's major festivals, here are a few things to know about the food that we can eat and food that we should avoid during this celebration:
Regular wheat and rice should be avoided during the Navratri fast: To make the preparations, utilise kuttu ka atta, singhare ka atta, or rajgire ka atta. One of the most important items consumed during the event is sabudana. It is also utilised in the preparation of khichdi, papad, and vadas.

Fruits: During the nine days of Navratri, you can eat any fruit. To keep the body hydrated throughout the fasting period, we should increase the consumption of fruits in our diet.
Spices and herbs: Spices and herbs can be eaten at this time of year. Table salt, on the other hand, should be avoided, and rock salt can be used as an alternative when cooking.
Veggies: All types of veggies are permitted to be consumed during the festival. During this time, people should avoid eating onions and garlic.
Meat, fish, and Eggs: Meat, fish, and eggs should be avoided during Navratri. Alcohol and smoking should be avoided at all costs.
During this time, the avatars of Goddess Shakti worshipped include Maa Shailputri, Maa Brahmcharini, Maa Chandraghanta, Maa Kushmanda, Maa Skandmata, Maa Katyayani, Maa Kaalratri, Maa Mahagauri, and Maa Siddhidatri.
