    Twenty of the ninety-nine assembly seats in Chhattisgarh are up for grabs, with 223 candidates—25 of them are women—in frey. 


    Digital Desk: Voting in Mizoram and Chhattisgarh began on Tuesday, November 7, kickstarting the November–December 2023 electoral fest, which is regarded as the "semi-final" before the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. In the midst of strict security protocols, polling places for Mizoram's 40 assembly seats opened at 7 am. There will be further voting until 4 pm Under heavy security, 20 seats in Chhattisgarh will vote in the first phase of the election on Tuesday. Voters in the vulnerable Naxalite-affected Bastar division will cast their ballots today under heavy security, with state police and paramilitary forces maintaining watch. Polling for 10 of Chhattisgarh's 20 seats started at 7 a.m. and will run till 3 pm in the first phase.


    Voting in the remaining areas started at 8 am and will conclude at 3 pm.


    For 40 assembly seats in Mizoram, 174 candidates are contesting. There are more than 8.57 lakh voters who may cast ballots, and 4.39 lakh of them are women. The Mizo National Front (MNF), which is in power, the main opposition Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), and the Congress are vying for the most seats, while the BJP wants to hold the position as kingmaker.


    Twenty of the ninety-nine assembly seats in Chhattisgarh are up for grabs, with 223 candidates—25 of them are women—running. Based on electoral records, more than 40 lakh persons (40,78,681) are eligible to vote. In the state, the opposition BJP and the ruling Congress are engaged in a direct struggle.

    • 9:00 am: An IED explosion in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh injures a CRPF jawan: While voting was taking place in Sukma district, an IED blast by Naxalites injured a commando of the CRPF's elite CoBRA unit, according to authorities.


    • 11:00 am: Up till 11:00 am, Chhattisgarh had a 26.97 percent voter turnout. Kanker (34.65), Kondagaon (32.5), and Antagarh (28.84) had the highest attendance.


    • 12:00: More women are casting votes in Chhattisgarh in 16 of the 20 seats: According to authorities, in 16 of the 20 assembly seats holding polls in the first round of the Chhattisgarh elections, the number of female voters surpasses male voters. These are Khujji, Pandariya, Kawardha, Bastar, Jagdalpur, Chitrakot, Mohla-Manpur, Bhanupratappur, Kanker, Keshkal, Kondagaon, Narayanpur, Dantewada, Bijapur, Konta, Rajnandgaon, and Khujji.
