Digital Desk: Maria Sharapova, the former Russian tennis champion, and Michael Schumacher, the seven-time Formula One racing world champion, were named in an FIR filed on the orders of a court in a case of cheating and criminal conspiracy at a Gurgaon police station on Wednesday. Directors of the real estate project and other developers are among the defendants mentioned in the FIR, according to police.
Shafali Agarwal, a resident of Delhi's Chattarpur Mini Farm, said in the lawsuit that she and her husband had reserved a 3,650-square-foot residential flat in the Sharapova project in Sector 73.
She claimed that the firm's executives defrauded her by persuading them to invest in a fantasy luxury property that never materialised, according to the lawsuit. "We reached out to the firm management after seeing images of the project, and accused companies (who) enticed the complainant into reserving a residential unit in their project made a number of false claims," it alleged.
The complainant, referring to Sharapova, added that "a famous international tennis player supported the project in the eyes of the general public by advertising for other accused, and her picture is… in the brochure promoting the project. She also made false promises and had dinner parties with the buyers, and all this was done for the project which never took off in the last seven years. Also, a tower (was) to be constructed named Michael Schumacher World Tower as mentioned in advertisements and brochures…"

She said she paid Rs 79,01,848, but the accused failed to finalise a buyer's agreement despite numerous demands. According to the complaint, the National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission was contacted, but no action was taken. They went to court, which ordered police to file an FIR on Wednesday.
Dinkar, SHO of Badshahpur police station, said, "On the directions of the court, under section 156 (3) of CrPC, the FIR has been registered. A probe has been initiated." The FIR was registered under IPC sections 406, 420 and 120-B, said police.
