India witnesses Rs 1 Lakh Crore for 1st time exceeding in field of Budget allocation in education: M

The government has increased its education budget, which now exceeds Rs 1 lakh crore for the first time, making a bigger picture for the upcoming generation.

Digital Desk: Indian education Sector offers an excellent opportunity, and India was ranked 34 among the 100 countries in English Proficiency Index 2019.

According to information presented to the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, the government has increased its education budget, which now exceeds Rs 1 lakh crore for the first time, making a bigger picture for the upcoming generation.

Speaking to the press in the Upper House during question hour, Minister of State for Education Subhas Sarkar said the 15th Finance Commission provided a grant of Rs 6,143 crore for online learning and professional course development, among other grants.

On the contrary, "This is the first time in the education (sector) that the budget has crossed Rs 1 lakh crore," Sarkar said in answer to a supplementary question from Jharna Das Baidya of the CPI(M) about the Union budget announcements regarding more excellent investment in the domain.

In response to a follow-up question about the 15th Finance Commission's recommendations for the education sector, Sarkar stated, "A grant of Rs 4,800 crore, and each year (there will be) a Rs 200 crore incentive per state to incentivize six states, as well as a grant of Rs 6,143 crore for online learning and professional course development. These are to motivate our educational field."

"The Centre and states work together to increase public investment in education sector to reach 6% of GDP at the earliest," Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said in a statement laid before the Upper House in response to a question by Baidya on whether any time limit has been set to achieve the target of GDP allocation for education.

Ram Gopal Yadav (SP) also inquired as to how long the government will take to achieve its goal of raising public investment in education as a percentage of GDP to 6%, given that it has risen from 4.07 percent of GDP (states and Centre combined) to 4.32 percent in just five years.

Although Sarkar did not provide a particular response, he stated that the government has dramatically boosted education spending.

"If we consider the BRICS countries, we are considerably higher than China as a percentage of GDP," he said, adding that the government would achieve much more in a short period this year via the cooperation of state, Centre, and public.

In response to a statement about how much strength regional languages have been given in the National Education Policy (NEP) and whether P Bhattacharya's (Congress) plan to introduce regional languages up to the university level, Pradhan said that valuing local language and mother tongue is one of the NEP's primary strategies.

"In some sections of southern India, western India, and eastern India, the AICTE has already begun adapting engineering course books into their local languages... In addition, 14 institutions have already begun to educate in the native tongue. Priority must be given to the local tongue, "he stated

The entire goal of NEP and Samagra Shiksha, according to Pradhan, is to increase the quality of education so that the dropout rate is lowered, and PM Poshan Abhiyan is similarly ambitious.

"We are mainly focused on improving education quality and teacher education quality in consultation with the states. We are dedicated to raising the quality of teaching and learning to meet the demands of the twenty-first century, "he stated

The minister responded to a follow-up question from CPI(M) member Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharyya about the government's efforts to minimize the dropout rate.
