Digital Desk: On Friday, police said a 30-year-old man was arrested for reportedly beheading an eight-year-old girl and walking about with the severed head through a hamlet in Odisha's Jajpur district.
According to them, the purpose behind the grisly tragedy, which sent shockwaves across the community in Jamankira block, is yet unknown.
The eight-year-old girl had gone to relieve herself in the morning in a farmland, after which the accused went there with an axe and killed her. Later, he wandered the hamlet with the severed head in his hands, then went to a tube well and cleaned it.
When the accused's wife saw it, she got into a violent quarrel with him, but he threatened her with an axe. The accused then slept on the ground there.
The suspect was apprehended by police, who hurried to the scene. Preliminary research found that he was an alcoholic but had no ill will toward the deceased girl's family. Rajkishore Mishra, a Kuchinda subdivisional police officer, stated
"We're still trying to figure out what was going through his head when he did the act," the officer stated.
According to the locals, the accused, a father of two children, engaged in conflicts with his family on a daily basis, although he is not mentally sick.
