PM Modi to inaugurate 1st Hindu Temple in Abu Dhabi during 2-day UAE visit

Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a significant two-day official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on February 13 and 14, 2024. The highlight of this visit is the inauguration of the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi, the BAPS Mandir. This monumental event marks a historic moment, symbolizing the diverse cultural fabric within the UAE.

The external affairs ministry highlighted the extensive schedule of the visit, including a bilateral meeting with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The discussions aim to explore avenues for further strengthening the strategic alliance between the two countries and exchanging perspectives on regional and global concerns.

This visit marks Prime Minister Modi's seventh trip to the UAE since 2015, showcasing the continued commitment to fostering strong ties. Notably, it is his third visit in the past eight months, underscoring the significance of the diplomatic relationship.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to meet with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister, and Defence Minister of the UAE. Additionally, he will be a Guest of Honour at the World Government Summit 2024 in Dubai, where he will deliver a special keynote address, further emphasizing India's role on the global stage.

The BAPS Mandir inauguration holds cultural and religious significance, symbolizing the harmonious coexistence of diverse communities in the UAE. PM Modi's address to the Indian community at Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi reinforces the strong bond with the expansive Indian diaspora in the region.

The bilateral relations between India and the UAE have flourished, evolving into a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership since Prime Minister Modi's landmark visit in August 2015. Key agreements such as the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in February 2022 and the Local Currency Settlement (LCS) System in July 2023 have further deepened economic collaboration.

India and the UAE, being significant trading partners, witnessed bilateral trade reaching approximately USD 85 billion in 2022-23. The UAE remains one of the top four investors in India, underlining the robust economic ties between the two nations.

The vibrant Indian expatriate community, comprising approximately 3.5 million residents, plays a pivotal role in the UAE's progress. The Ministry of External Affairs recognizes and values their contribution, underscoring the role of this expatriate community as a cornerstone in the outstanding mutual relationship between India and the UAE.
