Railways loses Rs 1.22 crore as 20,000 tickets cancelled due to train delays
Nearly Rs 1.22 crore has been reimbursed to customers who canceled their tickets...

Digital Desk: The Moradabad Division of Indian Railways has reported the cancellation of up to 20,000 reserved tickets for December 2023, amid the continued cold wave conditions in Northern India that have resulted in dense fog engulfing multiple states.

Nearly Rs 1.22 crore has been reimbursed to customers who canceled their tickets, according to Raj Kumar Singh, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the Moradabad Division.

Singh stated in an interview with India Today TV/Aajtak that of the total number of reserved ticket cancellations, there were, among other places, 4,230 cancellations in Bareilly, 3,239 cancellations in Moradabad, 3917 cancellations in Haridwar, and 2,448 cancellations in Dehradun.

"Due to the fog, we had to cancel the trains with low occupancy. In December 2023, 20,000 tickets were canceled in the Moradabad Division even then, according to Singh.

Up till March, 42 trains had been canceled. We have also given customers a refund of Rs 1.22 crore," he continued.

Notably, cold wave conditions and thick fog have gripped North India.

Up to January 6, dense to extremely dense fog conditions are predicted to linger for several hours during the night and morning in some areas of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan.
