Digital Desk: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved a plan to put female soldiers, sailors, and air warriors in the Armed Forces under the same rules for maternity, child care, and adoption leaves as their officer counterparts, said the Ministry of Defence on Sunday.

With the release of these guidelines, the ministry stated that all women serving in the military, officers and non-officers, will be eligible for the same leave benefits.

"The decision is consistent with the Raksha Mantri's goal of allowing all women, regardless of rank, to participate equally in the Armed Forces and the extension of leave rules will go a long way in dealing with women-specific family and social issues relevant to the Armed Forces," said the ministry in a statement.

It further stated that the policy would help women in the military "balance" the spheres of professional and home life more effectively and enhance their working circumstances.

The ministry stated, "The three Services have spearheaded a paradigm shift with the inclusion of women as soldiers, sailors, and air warriors, furthering Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi-led Government's commitment towards utilising Nari Shakti."

The ministry announced the hiring of female agnavers, stating that the bravery, commitment, and patriotism of these women will enable the Armed Forces to protect the nation's land, sea, and air borders.

The ministry observed that Indian women are now "breaking barriers in almost every field in the Armed Forces, from being operationally deployed in Siachen to being posted on warships, and that they are "breaking barriers in almost every field in the Armed Forces."

It also cited the decision to enlist women in the Indian Army as troops in the Corps of Military Police as one of the Armed Forces' "significant" milestones. "Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has always been of the view that women should be at par with their male counterparts in every field," the statement reads.
