Digital Desk: In response to reports that a section of the Muslim community wants Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lay the foundation stone for the mosque being built in Dhannipur village in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya district.
The UP Sunni Central Waqf Board (UPSCWB) stated that there is no concept of a groundbreaking or foundation stone-laying ceremony for a mosque and that they do not have any such programme.
In addition, the board announced the new design of the grand mosque that will be built on the five-acre property allotted following the Supreme Court's decision in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit, replacing the prior architectural plans.
The board's response came a day after reports that a group of Muslims from Dhannipur village had entreated Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lay the groundwork for the proposed mosque. The Prime Minister will travel to Ayodhya on January 22, 2024, to attend Ram Lalla's Pran Patishtha ceremony at the newly constructed Ram temple.
"There are no such plans on the board. These reports are false because there is no such thing as a groundbreaking or foundation stone-laying ceremony for a mosque," said Athar Hussain, spokesperson for the Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation (IICF), the trust established by the UPSCWB to oversee the construction of the mosque and other structures on the five-acre plot of land.
The board, on the other hand, has declared that it may arrange a groundbreaking or inauguration ceremony for the other public utility projects that will be built alongside the mosque, to which it may invite any VVIP in the future. Aside from the mosque, the board intends to build a magnificent community kitchen, a super-speciality hospital, and a museum.
The board members formally inaugurated the mosque complex project on January 26, 2021, by planting seedlings and hoisting the national flag on the site to give the project a symbolic start.
New Mosque Design Deets
According to the board members, the new mosque design, while similar to others, would be one of the most amazing mosques of modern times. In contrast to the previous design, the high minarets with inside staircases and small windows would form an integral feature of the new mosque design.
Domes, another important aspect of Islamic architecture, would now be included in the proposed mosque, according to the updated design. The dome's ceiling will also have ' muqarnas' (ornamented vaulting) in the shape of a honeycomb. It will give the ceiling a monotone look.
The mosque would have many arches, which would add to the beauty of the monument.
The mosque's exterior would be beautifully ornamented with rainbow mosaic tiles exhibiting repetitive patterns and geometric or vegetal themes and designs, such as Arabesque. The walls may also carry Arabic calligraphy writings or Quranic passages.
The mosque's main structure would also include huge windows made of glass and teak wood, making the entire edifice light and airy. The structure will be enhanced by intrinsic stucco work on the interiors and exteriors of the wall, as well as ornate woodwork. Gardens, large courtyards, fountains, and water reservoirs will be included as external elements to assist Namazis with ablution practises prior to offering prayers at the mosque.
The latest design, however, is completely distinct from what the board presented in 2020. The mosque was planned to be a zero-energy edifice with a modern design, according to the old design.
In addition, the board engaged Professor SM Akhtar, a Lucknow-based architect and town planner who is also the founding dean of the College of Architecture at Jamia Milia University in Delhi, as the mosque complex's consultant architect.
