Wife of Jharkhand Minister's aide questioned after Rs 37 crore seized in ED raids

Over Rs 37 crore was retrieved by ED from various Ranchi sites in one of its largest cash hauls. Sanjiv Lal and Jahangir, his assistantwere taken into custody when the raids concluded.

Digital Desk: Rita Lal, the wife of Sanjiv Lal, the personal secretary of Jharkhand Minister Alamgir Alam, was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate on May 6 in Ranchi, after one of the biggest cash hauls. Sanjiv Lal, Rita's husband, is thought to be the case's main suspect. Significant amounts of "unaccounted cash," estimated to be worth over Rs 37 crore, were taken during raids at several Ranchi sites, including the home of Sanjiv Lal's housekeeper.

Following her husband Sanjiv's summons, Rita Lal was questioned by the ED in front of Jahangir Alam, his colleague.

He is thought to have been questioned by ED officials to get new information and insights related to the case from his wife. She could be able to unravel the complex web of accusations against Sanjiv Lal, which is why her remark is significant.

The 70-year-old Congressman Alamgir Alam serves as the state assembly's Pakur seat representative and minister for rural development in Jharkhand.

Over Rs 37 crore was retrieved by ED from various Ranchi sites in one of its largest cash hauls. Sanjiv Lal and Jahangir, his assistantwere taken into custody when the raids concluded.

Virendra K. Ram, the former head engineer of the Jharkhand Rural Development Department, was detained in February 2023, and the raids were related to a money laundering investigation against him.

Alleged irregularities in the department's implementation of certain schemes are connected to this case.

A PMLA court transferred Sanjiv Lal and Jahangir Alam to ED custody; Rita, Sanjiv's wife, was then called for interrogation.

The investigation team's main goal is to unravel and reveal the claims made against Lal. Numerous additional names may soon be called in for interrogation, according to sources.
