Bhubaneswar: Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Odisha has become the only University in India to send three athletes to the Tokyo Olympics which is scheduled to be held from July 23-August 8.
Sprinter Dutee Chand, Fencer Bhavani Devi and Javelin thrower Shivpal Singh all were students of the KIIT University, Odisha. Along with the 3 athletes, one official and a doctor will also go for the Tokyo Olympics as per the report.
Speaking to the India Today sprinter Dutee Chand said, “I will represent India for the second Olympic games in a row. I will be competing in 100 meters and 200 meters, I have been preparing hard for this Olympics. Recently I have created a new national record and broke my own record clocking 11.7 seconds at the Indian Grand Prix 4 in Patiala.”
Further, Chand added that she is hopeful that she will qualify for the semi-final and will be able to bring a medal for the country. She also thanked the Odisha government and founder of KIIT University for their support invested in the students.
Moreover, Chand said that it is a tough time for the athletes as they have to stay in home quarantine for four days after reaching Tokyo as it is necessary according to government norms, but this will not break our morale down.
Javelin Thrower Shivpal Singh also made a statement that he is hundred ten per cent sure that India will able to get a medal in Javelin throw in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
Moreover, the construction of India’s largest Hockey Stadium in Rourkela which will host the 2023 Men’s Hockey World Cup is in full swing as per the report.
