Digital Desk: The JSW-GMR-owned IPL franchise Delhi Capitals has partnered with ICON Sports Academy to open its first DC Cricket Academy in the Northeast.
Although the association between the ICON Sports Academy and the Delhi Capitals began in January 2023, the official announcement regarding the new DC Cricket Academy was made on Friday during a press conference in Guwahati.
The announcement was made in the presence of Delhi Capitals Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly, Head Coach Ricky Ponting, Assistant Coach Pravin Amre, Assistant Coach Shane Watson, and Head of DC Cricket Academies Jagrit Anand, as well as Secretary, Icon Group of Institutes Debashish Bora, Vice President Assam Cricket Association Rajdeep Ojha, and Head Coach, DC ICON Academies Syed Zuffri Zakaria.
The DC ICON Sports Academy is reportedly the first cricket establishment in Guwahati with an indoor training space. The programme also offers lodging and different turfs for aspiring cricketers to nail their skills.
"The youngsters in the Northeastern region have a great opportunity to grow as cricketers with the support of highly qualified BCCI level 2 coaches and world-class training facilities," a Delhi Capitals press statement reads.
"The Delhi Capitals Cricket Academy in Guwahati will give many young boys and girls the opportunity to train in good gear and pitches. I am confident that cricketers from the northeastern region will represent India with the help of the Delhi Capitals," said Sourav Ganguly, Director of Cricket, in relation to the partnership with ICON Sports Academy.
Meanwhile, Head Coach, DC Icon Academies, Syed Zuffri Zakaria, spoke about the training centre's facilities. "At one of the ICON School's Guwahati campuses, we have a state-of-the-art indoor cricket facility. The training facility includes four indoor Astroturf wickets and a small field for students to practise fielding," Zakaria said.

The Delhi Capitals also claimed that the DC Academies is a project of the team to encourage cricket at the grassroots level throughout the nation.
"The Delhi Capitals have successfully set up 14 centres in six states. As many as four players are part of different IPL franchises. One of them includes ICC U-19 World Cup-winning captain Yash Dhull, who is currently part of the Delhi Capitals squad," added the press statement.
