Digital Desk: Ravindra Jadeja of India dismissed Usman Khawaja to take his 250th Test wicket, making him the second-fastest Indian to collect 2500 runs and take 250 wickets in Test cricket.
Jadeja is barely one second slower than spin-bowling partner Ravichandran Ashwin in reaching this milestone. He is only the sixth Indian, behind Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, and Ashwin, to achieve the unusual accomplishment in Test cricket.
Jadeja reached the milestone when he eliminated Khawaja for his 250th Test wicket. Before Jadeja halted his progress, the left-handed batter was looking deadly and on his way to a century. The Australian hitter hit a reverse sweep, a stroke he'd played brilliantly all innings, and it sailed towards KL Rahul, who held onto the catch with an acrobatic effort.
This was Jadeja's first wicket of the match, as Australia lost their fifth wicket of the day and their most comfortable hitter in the middle.
Jadeja has ascended four spots to 16th in the latest ICC Test Bowling Rankings, owing to his performance in Nagpur. He maintained his number one rating in the all-rounder charts, while Ashwin remained in second place, as the Indians continue to dominate the Test all-rounder rankings.
In the first Test match in Nagpur, Jadeja was on fire, scooping up a key five-wicket haul in the first innings as India bowled out the visitors for 177 runs. He went on to knock a half-century as India amassed 400 runs in the second innings.
Jadeja took two more wickets in the third innings as India bowled Australia out for 91 runs, winning the match by an inning and 132 runs. Jadeja was named Man of the Match for his efforts at Nagpur's VCA Stadium.
