Finally, WhatsApp offers file transfers of up to 2GB, emoji reactions, and other features

WhatsApp was seen working on iMessage-like emoji reactions a long time ago, but the feature is now official.

Digital Desk: WhatsApp has updated its app with some much-needed improvements. WhatsApp had long been rumoured to be working on iMessage-style emoji reactions, but the feature has now been made public. WhatsApp users can only send files up to 2GB in size, in addition to emoji reactions. WhatsApp will also allow users to create groups with up to 512 members.

The launch of emoji reactions on WhatsApp was initially revealed by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on his Facebook page. WhatsApp competitors Signal, Telecom, and iMessage already had the emoji replies functionality. Emoji replies are also available on other Meta-owned chat apps. For a long time, WhatsApp has been working on the feature.

"We're thrilled to announce that emoji reactions are now available in the app's latest edition. Reactions are entertaining, quick, and help to avoid group overload. In the future, we'll continue to improve them by providing an even wider range of expressions," WhatsApp wrote in a blog post.

The default maximum capacity of group chats has been doubled from 256 to 512, which is a significant new feature on WhatsApp. Also, you may now transmit files up to 2GB in size via chat.

According to WhatApp's blog, the 'bigger groups' feature is being gradually rolled out, and the current version of the programme includes support for emoji reactions and increased file size restrictions. The emoji reactions will be available to all users in "approximately a week," according to Meta spokeswoman Vispi Bhopti, but some users may have already gotten them.
