New Delhi: Sri Lanka has decided to seek a $100 million financial aid from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to obtain 14 million doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
Sri Lanka minister of health Keheliya Rambukwella has suggested that the country will obtain an additional loan grant of $100 million under the program of vital preparation and response to COVID19, stated a government report.
The report also stated that the IMF has agreed to grant the additional loan of $100 million to help improve the country's COVID-19 situation.
On Friday, the island nation’s minister for pharmaceuticals, Channa Jayasumana informed the Parliament that the country has so far inoculated over 50 per cent of its 21 million.
Jayasumana also added that the government now aims to vaccinate over 75 per cent of the country’s population within the next few months.
He also informed that the country has already vaccinated 62 per cent of its total population.
It needs to mention here that Sri Lanka has recorded as many as 12,284 deaths due to coronavirus infection while the country has so far reported a total of 5.07 lakh COVID-19 positive cases.
