Digital Desk : US President Joe Biden on Wednesday condemned Russia's missile and drone attacks on Ukraine. He referred to such attacks as 'outrageous'. He also assured that the US Defence Department would increase weapon deliveries to Ukraine and continue to strengthen Ukraine against Russia.
In the early hours of Christmas day, Russia launched 78 air and ground missiles and 106 drones on Ukraine. These strikes damaged energy supplies and led to power cuts across the country.
Calling the attack 'inhumane', Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia made a conscious choice by launching a major overnight attack on his country's energy infrastructure on Christmas day.
In a statement, Biden said, "In the early hours of Christmas. Russia launched waves of missiles and drones against Ukrainian cities and critical energy infrastructure. The purpose of this outrageous attack was to cut off the Ukrainian people's access to heat and electricity during winter and to jeopardize the safety of its grid."
He further said, "Let me be very clear : the Ukrainian people deserve to live in peace and safety, and the United States and the international community must continue to stand with Ukraine until it triumphs over Russia's aggression."
He also said, "In recent months, the United States has provided Ukraine with hundreds of air defence missiles, and more are on the way. I have directed the Department of Defense to continue its surge of weapons deliveries to Ukraine, and the United States will continue to work tirelessly
to strengthen Ukraine's position in its defence against Russian forces."
However, President-elect Donald Trump is being critical of US aid to Ukraine. He suggests a deal between Kyiv and Moscow and urge to swiftly end the conflict.
Moscow also confirmed the attack and claimed that its goal had been achieved.
