During this period, people stay in their homes to celebrate the unique occasion with their loved ones. During Diwali, people decorate their homes with lights and give gifts to their loved ones. 

Dhanteras kicks off the Diwali celebrations. People celebrate Chhoti Diwali one day before Diwali. Govardhan Puja is held the day following Diwali. Diwali will be observed on November 12 this year. This year, Chhoti Diwali also falls on the same day.

During Diwali Maha Lakshmi puja is also performed, where Goddess Maha Lakshmi, Goddess Maha Kali, and Goddess Saraswati are worshipped as they are the manifestations of Goddess Lakshmi. The lotus flower is very important in the Lakshmi puja. Check out the reason why.

Importance of Lotus Flower during Laxmi Puja

The lotus flower has special significance for Goddess Lakshmi since it has eight lotus blossoms. Goddess Lakshmi's avatar evolved from the lotus flower, according to Hindu mythology. 

As a result, eight lotus flowers are offered to the goddess during Lakshmi puja. Devotees also present jaggery to Goddess Lakshmi if lotus flowers are not available during the Lakshmi puja.

The religious significance of the Lakshmi Beej Mantra:

The Lakshmi Beej mantra is a strong mantra that can remove poverty from one's life. Offering eight lotus flowers and chanting the Lakshmi Beej mantra in front of Goddess Maha Lakshmi is thought to assist devotees in breaking the cycle of debt. When we repeat the Lakshmi Beej mantra, we are said to gain wisdom; it also helps us welcome happiness and prosperity into our lives.
