    Learn about workouts that help cancer patients with Yoga to celebrate International Yoga Day 2022

    Yoga is a morning and empowering activity that allows you to break free from your own mental prison. Check some routine exercises that will help you deal with the disease.


    Digital Desk: The United Nations (UN) General Assembly declared the inaugural International Day of Yoga in 2014. During his presentation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi voiced about dedicating a day to the celebration of Yoga and its benefits. 


    Within 90 days, the draught resolution was passed with the support of 175 member states. On December 11, the same year, the United Nations declared June 21 to be World Yoga Day.


    This year the theme for International yoga day is - "Yoga for Humanity." 


    Well, Cancer is the world's second greatest cause of death, accounting for 9.6 million deaths, or one in every six deaths.


    Yoga has not been scientifically shown to cure or prevent any sort of Cancer. However, some research suggests that it may assist cancer patients in managing symptoms and side effects.


    Today, we'll talk about Yoga for cancer patients and survivors and some simple breathing exercises that cancer patients can perform at home!


    Pranayama (Yogic Breathing Techniques) routine is a great tool for easing the discomforts that cancer patients and survivors undergo as a behavioural intervention — This style of Yoga for recovery of cancer patients of any type is highly recommended.


    Now, let us learn what Pranayama is and how it can help tackle deadly diseases like Cancer!


    Pranayama is the fourth limb of Yoga's eight-field path, and it focuses on the mind and respiratory organs. 


    Pranayama's purpose is to improve the body-mind connection while encouraging calm and mindfulness. It is both a physical and a meditation exercise.


    Can Pranayama help treat Cancer - Although Pranayama cannot cure Cancer, it can help patients manage the symptoms of cancer treatment and repair the mental-emotional stress they suffered during their treatment. It's a safe and efficient strategy to combat many of Cancer's unpleasant physical and psychological impacts.


    Check these Yoga Techniques for Cancer Patients and Survivors: 


    Exercise 1: Nadi Shuddhi Pranayama (Alternate Nostril Breathing) Relax your body and mind, reduce anxiety, get a better night's sleep, and improve overall health.


    How to practise:  

    1. Close your right nostril with your thumb to allow intake solely through the left. Take a deep breath in and out.


    2. With your ring finger, close your left nostril and exhale slowly through your right.


    3. Inhale through your right nostril while remaining in the same position.


    4. With your thumb, close the right nostril and exhale slowly through the left.


    5. Continue in this manner for a total of ten rounds.


    Exercise 2: Bhramari Pranayama is the second exercise (Humming Bee Breath) Bhramari Pranayama,relax your body and mind, reduce anxiety, get a better night's sleep, and improve your general well-being.


    How to practise: 

    1. Sit in any comfortable crossed-leg position with your back and neck straight.


    2. Keep your tongue close to your upper palate and your lips closed.


    3. Cover your eyes with the remaining fingers and close your ears with your thumbs.


    4. Inhale deeply and make a humming bee sound with your throat while expelling.


    5. Repeat for a total of 10 rounds.



    Exercise 3: Breathing with your hands in and out 

    Benefits: Overcome weariness, keep your mind engaged so you can go on with your day, and improve your overall well-being.


    How to do it:

     1. Sit with your back straight and your arms extended in front of you, palms facing each other.


    2. Spread the hands and open the chest as you inhale, then draw the hands together as you exhale.


    3. Repeat for a total of ten rounds.


    4. After inhaling with your hands spread, hold your breath for a few seconds and then relax.


    As per medical experts, Consult your doctor before trying these if you are a cancer patient or survivor who is inexperienced with the Pranayama practice. Because everyone's situation is unique, it's critical to obtain preventative counsel from a medical practitioner.
