Digital Desk: Cyclonic Storm 'Hamoon' made landfall on the coastal regions of Bangladesh today, as confirmed by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The storm, which had been brewing over the Bay of Bengal, is set to weaken into a deep depression within the next six hours, offering some relief to the affected areas.
As of 0530 hours IST on October 25, 'Hamoon' was centered about 40 km east-southeast of Chittagong, Bangladesh, with wind speeds ranging between 80 to 90 kmph, gusting to 100 kmph. The IMD has been closely monitoring the storm's path, predicting it to move north-eastward while gradually losing intensity.
In anticipation of the approaching cyclone, Pamban Port in Rameswaram, India, had raised a 'storm warning cage number 2' to alert fishermen about the severe conditions in the Bay of Bengal. Meanwhile, the Odisha administration had already put all Urban Local Bodies (ULB) on alert in response to the storm's formation.
In a related development, the Severe Cyclonic Storm 'TEJ,' which had been over coastal Yemen, weakened into a cyclonic storm on October 24. The Meteorological Department expects it to continue moving west-northwestward and eventually weaken into a depression within the next six hours.

The adverse weather conditions are not limited to the immediate vicinity of 'Hamoon.' Light to moderate rainfall is anticipated in several regions. Mizoram is expected to experience isolated heavy rainfall on October 25, while Mizoram and Tripura are likely to have light to moderate rainfall on Thursday. Additionally, Nagaland, Manipur, and east Arunachal Pradesh can expect similar conditions on both Wednesday and Thursday.
As a safety measure, fishermen have been strongly advised against venturing into the Northeast Bay of Bengal and the waters along and off the coasts of Bangladesh and north Myanmar until October 25. Areas adjoining the northwest Bay of Bengal and eastcentral Bay of Bengal are also cautioned to avoid venturing out until Wednesday afternoon.
With these precautions and the expected weakening of Cyclonic Storm 'Hamoon,' authorities hope to minimize the impact of this natural disaster on coastal communities while ensuring public safety.
